At Oakdene Primary Academy, we aim to deliver high-quality Geography education that helps pupils gain a coherent understanding of the wider world. We strive to inspire curiosity and fascination about the planet and equip children with a wide range of transferable skills. Pupils are encouraged to ask perceptive questions, think critically about their surroundings, and challenge stereotypes. We use deep-level questioning as the foundation for our enquiry-based curriculum.
The 2014 National Curriculum emphasised the importance of skills alongside knowledge. In response, Oakdene Primary Academy follows a skills-based curriculum, where children are actively aware of the skills being taught in each lesson. Each curriculum area focuses on a key set of skills, which are developed and built upon throughout each unit of work. These skills are carefully planned to ensure progression across each key stage and throughout the school.
Through high-quality teaching, we aim to foster a passion and enthusiasm for Geography so that children become reflective and aware geographers. Pupils will be engaged in the subject and inquisitive about real-world issues, asking questions that demonstrate an understanding of their identity and the wider world. All children will make progress in Geography through varied opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
