School Council

At Oakdene, we are proud to have a highly successful School Council that gives children a genuine voice in shaping school life. Elections are held annually, with two representatives elected from each class in Years 1 to 6.

Our councillors gather pupils' views, ideas, and opinions across the school and bring these suggestions to fortnightly School Council meetings. Children are encouraged to regularly discuss all aspects of school life within their classes, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to contribute. Councillors then report back to their classes, sharing decisions and updates from meetings.

The School Council has played an important role in improving school life at Oakdene. Their achievements include securing new playground markings, raising funds to purchase additional playtime equipment, and contributing ideas to improve different areas of the curriculum and the wider school experience.

As part of their role, councillors actively support fundraising and community events throughout the year. They help organise and promote initiatives such as our Harvest Appeal, Alder Hey Toy Appeal, Wear Yellow Day for Mental Health Awareness and the annual Santa Dash. Through these activities, they demonstrate kindness, leadership and a commitment to making a positive difference both within school and in the wider community.

Alongside the School Council, Oakdene also has the Excellent Eleven, our Junior Leadership Team (JLT). These pupils work closely with school leaders to help drive improvement across the school. They act as role models, gather pupil voice, contribute ideas for school development and support important projects and events that help make Oakdene an even better place to learn, grow and succeed.

Together, our School Council and Excellent Eleven ensure that pupil voice remains at the heart of everything we do, helping us to live out our vision of Growing Through Excellence.
