Year 1 2025-2026

Welcome to Year 1

Class teacher: Miss Smith

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Blennarhassett and Mrs Wynne

Welcome to our Year 1 class page!

In  Year
1, children take their exciting first steps into Key Stage 1, building on the strong foundations developed in Reception. Our classroom is a vibrant, nurturing, and inspiring environment where curiosity is encouraged, and every child is supported to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Through a rich and creative curriculum, we help children develop early literacy and numeracy skills while fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Our days are filled with hands-on activities, stories, exploration, and plenty of opportunities for children to express themselves and work together.

We value each child as an individual and aim to create a positive, inclusive atmosphere where all children feel safe, confident, and eager to learn. We look forward to an exciting year of discovery, growth, and fun in Year 1!

  • The class door is opened at 8.35 am and the register is then taken at 9am.

  • The end of the school day is at 3:15pm.

  • All children are entitled to free milk in Year 1.

  • All children are also entitled to free school meals until they reach the end of Year

  • If you require any further information we are always available for a chat at home time, or you can contact us via the school office or dojo.

Reading/Homework

We follow the Read Write Inc Phonics Reading Scheme.  Children take home a fully decodable set of reading books, plus a book of their choice every week alongside homework. Homework is sent on Thursdays and is due back on Tuesdays. Reading books are sent home on Fridays and changed the following Friday if they have been returned.

PE Kits

Our PE sessions are on Mondays and Thursdays, and we ask that children come to school in their PE kits on these days.
