Year 6 2025 - 2026

Welcome to Year 6 Oak Class

Class teacher: Mr Weston

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Hobday

Welcome to the Year 6 class page. In our class, we strive to demonstrate our Oakdene values, showing responsibility as the oldest children in school and being role models for the rest of our school community. We are proud to be buddies to our Reception cohort, and to fulfil leadership roles which enable our school to thrive.  We push ourselves to work hard, demonstrating an ever-increasing and in-built work ethic and having a growth mindset that enables us to keep pushing forwards with work and be the very best we can be.

  • The class door opens at 8:45 am and children settle straight into their retrieval tasks and start of day activities.

  • The end of the school day is 3:15 pm.

  • Children in Year 6 are allowed to walk home alone with express written permission from parents.

If parents wish to get in touch with the class teacher, Mr Weston can be contacted via Class Dojo, or by phoning the school office to arrange an appointment. Creating positive links between pupil, parent and teacher are key to ensuring the best possible education for every child.

Reading

Children are expected to read 5 times per week at home, in addition to any independent reading time they receive during the school day. Reading Records are checked on a Monday.

Homework

Year 6 homework is set on a Friday and returned the following Friday, when we go through answers together in class and upload our evidence to Seesaw – our online learning portfolio.

PE

Our PE days are currently Wednesday and Friday. Children should attend school in PE kits on those days. Year 6 children are allowed to wear their Leavers’ Hoodies for PE days only.
