Pupil Premium was introduced by the Government in April 2011, as one of its measures aimed at reducing inequalities. A total of £625 million was allocated to Local Authorities and Schools.
The Government allocates additional funding aimed at supporting pupils who are:
Eligible for Free School Meals
Looked after by the Local Authority
The children of Armed Service personnel
Data collected from schools in January each year, is used to determine the amount of funding a school will receive. Schools decide how the premium is used in order to best support the raising of attainment for these pupils.
In 2012-2013 the Pupil Premium was extended to include pupils on roll that are known to have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any time during the past six years. A total of £1.25 billion was allocated nationally.
PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to make sustainable improvements to physical education (PE), physical activity and school sport.
The funding supports schools in providing high-quality sporting opportunities, increasing participation and promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all pupils.
At Oakdene Primary Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every child has access to high-quality PE, physical activity and sporting opportunities that promote physical development, wellbeing, confidence and resilience.
Our PE curriculum is designed to develop fundamental movement skills, encourage lifelong participation in physical activity and provide opportunities for pupils to experience a wide range of sports. Alongside high-quality PE lessons, pupils benefit from extracurricular clubs, competitive sporting events, leadership opportunities and active play throughout the school day.
As an inclusive school, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, can access and enjoy physical activity, develop their talents and achieve success.
We use PE and Sport Premium funding to create sustainable improvements through:
Developing staff confidence, knowledge and expertise in delivering high-quality PE and school sport.
Increasing pupils’ participation in regular physical activity and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Raising the profile of PE, physical activity and sport across the academy.
Providing a wider range of sporting experiences and opportunities for all pupils.
Ensuring equal access to sport and physical activity for all children.
Increasing participation in competitive sport and school representation.
Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership skills through sport.
Our annual PE and Sport Premium reports demonstrate how funding has been spent, the impact on pupil participation, engagement and attainment, and how the academy will sustain and build upon improvements in future years. These reports provide transparency and demonstrate our commitment to ensuring every pupil benefits from high-quality PE, physical activity and sport.
