Assemblies

Assemblies at Oakdene Primary Academy

Assemblies are a valued and important part of life at Oakdene Primary Academy and play a key role in nurturing the whole child. They provide meaningful opportunities for our pupils to come together as a school community to reflect, celebrate achievements, develop understanding and strengthen the values that underpin everything we do.

Through our assemblies, we promote our commitment to excellence and support children to be the very best versions of themselves—academically, socially and personally. Assemblies also reinforce our core expectations: Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Resilient and Be Safe, helping children to grow in confidence, empathy, responsibility and pride within our school community.

Monday and Tuesday – No Outsiders Assemblies

Our week begins with No Outsiders assemblies on Monday and Tuesday, reflecting our strong commitment to inclusion, equality and respect for all.

Through carefully chosen texts, discussion and reflection, children explore themes such as kindness, acceptance and celebrating diversity. Pupils learn to understand and respect differences, including race, religion, gender, ability and family background.

These assemblies reinforce our message that everyone belongs at Oakdene and that our school is a welcoming, safe and respectful place for all.

Wednesday – Singing Assembly

On Wednesdays, we come together for our Singing Assembly, where children experience the joy and unity that music brings.

Our singing sessions include:

·         Songs linked to our school values

·         Music inspired by well-known and influential musicians

·         Young Voices songs, allowing children to feel part of something bigger and develop their love of performance

Singing together helps to build confidence, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging, while also giving children opportunities to express themselves creatively and reflect on important messages.

Thursday – Picture News and Current Affairs Assemblies

On Thursdays, our assemblies focus on Picture News and wider current events, including local, national and global issues.

These sessions provide children with age-appropriate opportunities to:

·         Explore what is happening in the world around them

·         Think critically and ask thoughtful questions

·         Consider different viewpoints

·         Develop their understanding of important social and moral issues

These assemblies help to foster curiosity, compassion and respect, supporting children to become informed, responsible and active citizens.

Friday – Oakdene ‘Mighty Oaks’ Celebration Assembly

Each Friday, we come together for our Oakdene Mighty Oaks Celebration Assembly, a special time to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our pupils.

During this assembly, we:

·         Celebrate children who have demonstrated our school values

·         Recognise effort, resilience and positive attitudes to learning

·         Share successes from within and beyond school

This weekly celebration encourages all children to strive for excellence, take pride in their achievements and celebrate the successes of others, strengthening our positive and supportive school community.
