Dreamcatcher Assemblies and Careers

At Oakdene Primary Academy, we are committed to raising aspirations by capturing and nurturing every child’s interests, strengths and dreams. We want our pupils to see the vast possibilities available to them, to meet people doing inspiring jobs, and to understand the qualifications, skills and experiences needed to turn their ambitions into reality.

Our Dreamcatcher Assembly Programme is a well-established and much-loved part of school life for pupils in Key Stage Two. Through these assemblies, children have the opportunity to meet and engage with a wide range of visitors from different professions, asking thoughtful questions and gaining first-hand insight into a variety of careers.

So far, we have welcomed visitors such as representatives from the fire and police services, an author, a lawyer, a doctor, a pilot, a music teacher, a green space officer, a swimmer, an Olympic athlete, a train driver, a nurse, a news editor and a gymnast just to mention a few. These experiences help to broaden horizons and inspire our pupils to think ambitiously about their own futures.

In addition to our assemblies, we host an annual Careers Fair in the Autumn Term. Our pupils prepare carefully for this event, writing well-structured questions and engaging in meaningful conversations with stall holders and exhibitors. We are incredibly proud of how confidently they speak, demonstrating strong oracy skills and the ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully.

At Oakdene, our Dreamcatcher programme is also closely aligned with our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equality. We strive to ensure that the individuals our pupils meet reflect a rich and diverse society, helping children to see themselves in a wide range of futures and to value the contributions of others.

Our work in this area continues to grow, and we are always keen to involve new visitors.

If you would be interested in coming to talk to and inspire our children, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
