PATHS at Oakdene Primary Academy
At Oakdene Primary Academy, we are incredibly proud to be a PATHS school. Through the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) programme, we place children’s social and emotional development at the heart of everything we do.
PATHS helps our pupils to develop the skills they need to thrive—not just in school, but in life. We teach children how to:
· understand and manage their feelings
· make thoughtful, positive choices
· solve problems calmly and respectfully
· build strong, healthy relationships
Across the school, you will see PATHS in action every day. Our children speak confidently about their emotions, use shared language to resolve conflicts, and consistently demonstrate kindness, empathy and respect towards others. We are especially proud of how naturally our pupils apply these skills in their learning, play and friendships—truly living our values as a school community.

Meet Our B’s Buddies
Our B’s Buddies are a fantastic example of pupil leadership at Oakdene. These children take on an important role in promoting our PATHS values across the school, particularly during social times such as lunchtimes and playtimes.
A B’s Buddy models the positive “B’s” behaviours that underpin our school ethos:
· Be Responsible
· Be Respectful
· Be Safe
· Be Kind
They are wonderful role models who:
· gently support their peers to make positive choices
· help others to solve small problems using PATHS strategies
· encourage inclusive play so that no child feels left out
· remind their friends of our shared expectations in a caring and supportive way
B’s Buddies play a key role in creating the warm, welcoming and inclusive environment we are so proud of at Oakdene. Through their leadership, they help ensure that every child feels valued, respected and part of our community.
