Summer Reading Challenge 2017 , by Miss Barlow

Date: 28th Jun 2017 @ 2:10pm

Image result for summer reading challenge 2017

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year in libraries over the summer holidays.

This national reading for pleasure programme has been running for 18 years, and last year more than three quarters of a million children took part by borrowing, reading and talking about their

favourite books.

Each year the Challenge has a different theme.

This year we have teamed up with the UK’s best-selling children’s illustrator, Tony Ross,

for ANIMAL AGENTS, the Summer Reading Challenge 2017.

The Animal Agents are a whole host of clever creatures, ready to solve all kinds of crimes!

This band of furry, slippery and feathered friends is specially trained to use their skills and natural instincts to unravel mysteries – with a huge helping of fun along the way.

Children who take part:

  1. Are more enthusiastic about reading
  2. Maintain their reading level over the holidays
  3. Boost their confidence and self-esteem

How it works

  1. Each child (most are aged 4 -11) signs up at their local library
  2. Children borrow and read at least SIX library books of their own choice during the summer, collecting special stickers and rewards along the way
  3. Library staff and young volunteers provide guidance and encouragement
  4. Children receive a certificate and/or a medal when they complete the Challenge
  5. Many libraries also run a pre-school Mini Challenge
  6. Most libraries will start the Challenge on Saturday 15 July. Regional variation will apply, so check with your local library to find out when the Challenge will start and end in your area

We would love as many of our children who can, to take part in the challenge. Rainhill Library are eagerly awaiting for you to go and sign up. If you complete the challenge, please bring your certificate back into school in September. The class who have the most children completing the challenge will win a prize. Good luck!

St Andrew's Manifesto, by Mr Weston

Date: 12th Jun 2017 @ 8:22am

VOTE FOR ST.ANDREW
DON’T BE BLUE, VOTE FOR BLUE!

At Oakdene Primary, all of you do fantastic work and behave superbly. Without doubt, you should be rewarded for these efforts.

It is St Andrew’s view that, although our current dojo system has made a good start with rewards, it currently doesn’t go far enough.

Surely you want a school where your excellence is really rewarded?

We may not get another chance to change the dojo system and some of you may be in school for up to 6 more years.

Vote St Andrew – Good Work Means Good Prizes.

OUR MANIFESTO

•    Winning Dojo team will receive a 10 minute supervised break on a Friday afternoon.
•    Teams need to be organised properly - to ensure fairness.
•    When counting class dojos, use the mean average so that it is fair because in a class, some teams have 5 people in it and then some teams have 9.
•    We can have better individual prizes in the Friday assembly without costing too much.
•    The 2 individual dojo winners from each class will wear their own clothes on the following Monday to make them feel more special.
•    Teachers will be more consistent in how they give out dojos.

DON’T BE BLUE, VOTE FOR BLUE.
VOTE FOR ST ANDREW!

Vote for St David, by Miss Bailey

Date: 8th Jun 2017 @ 11:13am

St David Party Manifestohttps://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/cartoon-daffodil-hand-drawn-illustration-retro-style-vector-available-37011659.jpg

Our manifesto pledges are:

  • Introduce white t-shirts for everyone with a logo for PE.

  • We will use colour bands to mix up groups in PE so that children can work in teams of different children.

  • We will have a phasing out period so that parents don’t have to buy new t-shirts immediately.

Why should you vote for our manifesto?

  • There will be equal teams in PE.

  • You will be able to work with others.

  • You may be able to work in teams of boys and girls.

  • It will stop arguments because children will have the opportunity to work with different children.

  • Currently the yellow t-shirts attract flies, which is a potential health and safety issue.

Daffodils attract, St David reacts!

Party Leader: Rebecca S

We are all in this together so we should be able to work together in PE. Vote for us!

MacMillan Coffee Morning , by Miss Barlow

Date: 21st Sep 2016 @ 1:31pm

School council would like to thank all the parents who came to our MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday. It was a fantastic morning with a packed hall of parents. Thank you to all who donated cakes as they went down a treat. We even sold them after school to give those a chance who couldn't make it to taste what was on offer and raise more money.

A huge congratulations to Ned (Year 6) and Alex (Year 5) who won the cake decoration competition with their fantastic entries. The cakes were auctioned off in style by Mrs Nelson adding to our grand total. A big thank you to all staff who helped set up and run the successful event. It couldn't run without you. The rest of the school enjoyed their MacMillan afternoon in class when all the children downed their pencils to have a biscuit, a  drink and chat in aid of this fantastic charity.

The grand total has been counted and we raised an amazing £662.53! Thank you again for all your support towards this fantastic cause.

Schools' Poetry Showcase , by Miss Barlow

Date: 21st Jun 2016 @ 2:33pm

Last night two of our Year 5 pupils took part in the Schools' Poetry Showcase on Monday along with 11 other pupils from local schools. Both of our girls were fantastic. I was very proud of both of their performances as it is not easy getting up to perform in front of an audience. The girls didn't let the audience hinder them and they delivered two exceptional performances. Congratulations to Rebecca who came second in the competition. A fantastic achievement.
