Curriculum Statement

Curriculum Statement

We believe in developing a well-educated child and provide opportunities in all year groups to ensure that children are school-ready, work-ready and life-ready. We provide a challenging, language rich, investigative 21st century skills and knowledge based curriculum. It captures the imagination of our children, stimulates their natural curiosity and creates a love of learning that is lifelong. Engaging learning challenges develop key knowledge and skills linked to the National Curriculum. Visits, visitors and hooks for learning provide a variety of first hand experiences.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum linked to our children's needs.  We focus on aspects of the local community of Rainhill and a wider reach of St. Helens and Liverpool, covering the historical, geographical, social and scientific aspects of these areas. We embrace technological advances whilst ensuring safety for all our children.

We empower our children to be determined, respectful, and honest, showing excellence, responsibility and friendship whilst developing healthy minds and bodies.

In Year 6 all children are taught to play the keyboard and all Junior children receive swimming lessons until they are competent swimmers. We timetable RE and PSHE each week giving them equal status to other 'foundation' subjects. PE is taught by class teachers and a sports coach covering 2 hours of physical activity per week. Junior children undertake French throughout Key Stage 2. All children visit a different place of worship each year and learn about the cultures associated with these religions. Year 6 children attend an outdoor adventure weekend and all classes undertake many trips and visits as well as inviting visitors into school linked to the Curriculum. We develop life skills using Business Enterprise initiatives and work for life lessons. Outdoor learning is encouraged and work is being undrtaken to enhance the school grounds.

Our carefully designed creative curriculum provides the pupils with high quality learning experiences that prepare them both academically and socially to have successful futures.
